2010 Project 365 :: Day 043

Taken @ 10:21 am EST
Every thing means something to someone.
Yet again, I found myself searching for random props in my apartment today. The solution: my minuscule jewelry collection (minus the engagement & wedding rings). When I was a teenager, I adored wearing rings – at least 3 on each hand. By the time I hit 20, I only wore jewelry during photo shoots. Slowly, I’ve acquired a minor collection that is well-cherished.
Why do I keep pieces that I only wear once a year, if that? Because they are all emotionally precious.
Silver Ring: Made in Sweden, purchased by my mum in San Diego during an unexpected visit on my birthday. A quaint connection to my cultural heritage & countless adventures at my mum’s side.
Pink Pearl Necklace: Given to my husband by a fellow employee in San Francisco (his wife was giving them away), and he knew how much I liked pearls (utterly classic!), so it ended up in my hands (or around my neck, as it were).
Green Bracelet: Given to me by a very dear friend in San Francisco, Tess B., just months before I moved back to CT. I think of her every time I see it, missing her fantastic hugs & spectacularly random conversations.
Celtic Cross Necklace: Given to me by my grandma (my mum’s mum), which she purchased during a trip to Ireland (jealous!). She knows that I don’t believe in God, but she still likes to inject minor reminders of Him – very subtle.
Sapphire & Diamond Necklace: The first piece of jewelry my now-husband bought me, given to me on Christmas Day 2005. This just happened to be the last Christmas we spend in CT (then living in Stamford) before we moved to San Francisco, but at the time, we didn’t know that. He told me the shape reminded him of a star, symbolic of me & the shining light that I brought into his life. While moving back to CT from SF, the chain got tangled in the hinge of its jewelry box and broke. I wasn’t able to wear the necklace on our wedding day, which was a major bummer. With no encouragement from me, my mum bought me a brand new chain for the necklace 2 weeks ago. I’m going to wear the necklace on Valentine’s Day & surprise my hubby (no, he doesn’t read this blog).
